What happened

A single Dornier 17 attacked the Westland Aircraft factory at lunchtime. Two bombs struck the factory, one hit the car park, and further bombs fell on houses in Westland Road, where a direct hit destroyed a home and killed a mother and her five-year-old son.

Also worth knowing

The account comes from Yeovil local historian Jack Sweet, who witnessed the raid aged five. No exact day in March 1941 and no total death toll are given, and the factory position here is indicative rather than surveyed.
