What happened
Suspected ordnance was reported on West Wittering beach at 3.26pm on the Sunday of the late-May bank holiday. Coastguard crews cordoned the object until an EOD team arrived, standing down at 7.15pm.
How it was made safe
Controlled explosion on the beach by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
