What happened
A V-1 destroyed the railway bridge carrying the line over Oak Lane at Upchurch. The Victoria to Ramsgate train, carrying around 400 passengers, arrived moments later and ran into the gap.
Casualty note
Seven train passengers and one railway worker sheltering beneath the bridge. Around 200 people were injured, eighteen of them seriously.

The driver reported his hat being blown off and a cloud of smoke ahead before the crash. A replacement structure was in place within three days.
