What happened
Bombs fell on the centre of Salcombe overnight. RAF 266 (Rhodesia) Squadron, then tasked with stopping the hit-and-run raids, shot down one Focke-Wulf 190 over nearby Chivelstone and a second as it reached the French coast — but others got through.
Casualty note
Deaths at 65A and 9 Fore Street and at 1 Clifton Place, including a mother and her 15-year-old daughter.
