What happened
High-explosive bombs, parachute mines and around 1,000 incendiaries fell on Rochester overnight, destroying dozens of homes in the Wickham Street area.
Casualty note
Eleven killed, among them three firefighters of the Rochester Auxiliary Fire Service and a two-year-old boy. More than a hundred were injured.
