What happened
A formation of Stuka dive bombers attacked the Fleet Air Arm station at Ford during the Battle of Britain, wrecking airfield buildings and the landing ground.
Also worth knowing
Some of the dead are buried in Clymping churchyard. The station passed to the RAF shortly afterwards.
