What happened

A large Luftwaffe formation crossed the coast near the Solent and split into groups of eight or nine aircraft, striking the Royal Aircraft Establishment as well as Bordon Camp and Basingstoke.

Casualty note

Three Home Guard members killed at Farnborough. Around 166 civilian deaths were recorded across southern England that day — a regional figure that should not be attributed to Farnborough.

Also worth knowing

Broken cloud hampered Fighter Command's interception of the roughly 200 bombers dispersed that day.
