What happened
The naval dockyard and the adjoining Portsea and Landport districts were among the principal targets of the 10 January raid, alongside the power station, six churches, a hospital and three cinemas. Around 40,000 incendiaries and 140 tons of high explosive fell over roughly seven hours, starting 2,314 fires and fracturing 60 water mains.

No site-specific figure available. The city-wide toll for the night was 172.

The city's records manager recorded that survivors found large parts of Portsea, Landport and Southsea were smoking ruins.
