What happened
A lone hit-and-run raider killed a fire-watcher at the Labour Exchange. It was the last month of the war in which Paignton was attacked from the air — the same month the town received its first consignment of Morrison and Anderson shelters.
Casualty note
Walter Weston, killed while fire-watching.
Also worth knowing
An earlier raid on 13 February 1943 damaged further property including Oldway, the mansion built by the Singer family, without loss of life.
