What happened
Paignton's first air raid. Several incendiary bombs started fires across the town and killed two men — an ARP warden injured in Ebenezer Road, and a resident of Corsham Road. Both died the same day at the District Hospital.
Casualty note
Frankie Williams, a volunteer air raid warden, and Ernest Evans of Corsham Road.
Also worth knowing
The town was crowded at the time: hundreds of evacuee children had been billeted there, joined that March by families made homeless by the Plymouth Blitz.
