What happened
High-explosive bombs falling wide of the Trafford Park target area struck houses and a sweet shop at the Oakfield Road and Moss Lane junction, killing fourteen civilians. A memorial plaque now marks the site.
Also worth knowing
Stretford, Old Trafford, Sale, Timperley and Urmston were all hit by bombs intended for the industrial estate — the ordinary consequence of night bombing aimed at a factory.
