What happened
Between 25 and 30 Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter-bombers attacked Brighton in a low-level daylight raid, demolishing a central pier of the London Road railway viaduct. Around 150 homes were destroyed and more than 500 people displaced.
Casualty note
24 killed — ten men, twelve women and two children — with 58 seriously and 69 slightly injured.

The most structurally destructive raid of the war on the town. The Black Rock gasworks was also set ablaze.
