What happened

Around 200 air-dropped munitions fell on a decoy site in Langstone Harbour rather than on the city — a successful use of the deception sites built to draw bombing away from populated Portsmouth.

Also worth knowing

Recorded because the decoys are part of the story of why bombs fell where they did. Portsmouth also built a deep shelter into Portsdown Hill in 1942, designed to hold 2,500 people.
