What happened
Fighter-bombers struck west Hove at 4.55pm, hitting Walsingham Terrace, Rutland Gardens, Shelley Road and Amherst Crescent with bombs and cannon fire. It was Hove's worst single raid.
Casualty note
Twelve killed: six women, four men, one child and one serviceman.
