What happened
The second night of the Sheffield Blitz was directed at the east-end steel and armaments plants. Hadfields, Brown Bayleys and Steel, Peech and Tozer all took hits, but sources agree the damage was not serious enough to interrupt production.
Casualty note
No site-specific figure exists. Sheffield's 660-plus dead is a city-wide total.
Also worth knowing
Hadfields' ninety-acre East Hecla Works on Vulcan Road is now largely covered by the Meadowhall shopping centre.
