What happened
Plymouth's Victorian civic Guildhall was reduced to a shell during the 1941 raids, one of nearly every civic building lost in the city centre that spring.
Also worth knowing
It survived a 1951 council vote on demolition by a single vote, and was restored to its original Victorian plans between 1954 and 1959 — now a Grade II listed anchor point of the rebuilt city centre.
