What happened
A 1,000kg high-explosive bomb struck Burgess Street, devastating King Edward Street, Victoria Street, Grime Street and Fotherby Street. Air raid warden John Denford and sailor Fred Dolphin rescued a young woman from a collapsed terraced house on King Edward Street.
