What happened
Junkers Ju 87 Stukas attacked the 933 Barrage Balloon Squadron site at St Vincent sports ground, part of a raid of more than 150 aircraft. The railway line to Fareham is thought to have given the pilots their run-in.
Casualty note
At least fifteen: twelve military personnel, ten of them from barrage balloon squadrons, two civilian groundsmen, and at least three further civilians.

Most of the servicemen killed were buried in the war graves section of Ann's Hill Cemetery.
