What happened
The armed merchant ship Registan was bombed in Falmouth harbour. Twenty-seven of the dead could not be identified and are buried together in Falmouth Cemetery.
Casualty note
Five graves in Falmouth Cemetery hold the remains of 27 unidentified sailors from the vessel.
Also worth knowing
Air raids and harbour mining caused repeated casualties at Falmouth through 1941; this was the single worst incident.
