What happened
The opening Baedeker attack on Exeter, by around 49 bombers, largely missed the city centre in heavy cloud. Seven high-explosive bombs fell on St Thomas and Marsh Barton west of the Exe, damaging some 200 houses.
Casualty note
Sources give four or five killed in Okehampton Street, with eight injured.
Also worth knowing
Okehampton Street is in Exeter St Thomas, not the town of Okehampton — an easy confusion when reading wartime records.
