What happened
The Lower Market, a Greek Revival market hall of 1835-37, was gutted in the raid, along with the top of Fore Street and much of South Street.
Also worth knowing
Its surviving shell was demolished in the 1960s — like Bedford Circus, lost to post-war clearance rather than to the bombing itself.
