What happened
Two high-explosive bombs fell in fields by Bovemoor Lane and Mile Lane on the eastern edge of the city, causing only slight damage to nearby buildings.
Also worth knowing
One of Exeter's earliest raids, well before the 1942 Baedeker attacks devastated the centre. A local account holds that one of these bombs killed a cow in the field — plausible for an open-field HE fall of this kind, but not yet corroborated against the primary bomb register (Devon's WW2 bomb census is held by the South West Heritage Trust at the Devon Heritage Centre and is not digitised or searchable online). Coordinate is a postcode-area estimate for Bovemoors Lane, EX2 — the exact field is not pinpointed. Treat as approximate until checked against the SW Heritage Trust register.
