What happened
Erdington was the first Birmingham suburb bombed in the war, when a single German aircraft dropped eight bombs on 9 August 1940.
Casualty note
One killed and six injured across the whole stick of eight bombs. Jimmy Fry of Montague Road was the city's first air-raid fatality.
Also worth knowing
An area marker rather than an impact point: the council names the victim's address, which is not necessarily where the bomb fell, and the eight bombs were spread across the area.
