What happened
A bomb hit a train at Eastbourne railway station, one of many raids on what the Home Office designated the most raided town in the South East region.

Four killed that day when a bomb struck a train standing in the station.

Town-wide totals vary widely and should be treated with care: 187 civilians are recorded as dying in the borough through enemy action, a Civil Defence regional officer cited 96 enemy air attacks — more than any other town in the region — and one oral-history account says over 400 bombs fell between July 1940 and December 1941.
