What happened
A daylight raid dropped three bombs on Dartmouth and the Royal Naval College. Two destroyed several buildings in the town, killing 15 people.
Also worth knowing
Dartmouth's deep-water harbour made it a base for motor torpedo boats and, later, a D-Day embarkation point — keeping the town a target throughout the war.
