What happened
The hospital escaped with only minor damage on 14 November 1940 but took ten direct hits during the Easter raid of 8 April 1941. The worst loss came the next morning, when an unexploded bomb outside the entrance detonated and buried patients who had been moved to the basement for safety.
Casualty note
21 patients, seven nurses, two doctors and three St John Ambulance stretcher-bearers. This is a site-specific figure. Separately, 281 were killed across Coventry on 8 April and 170 on 10 April — raid-wide totals.
