What happened
Around 7.15pm two bombs struck the New Building of the Birmingham Small Arms works during the night shift, and it collapsed. The dead were aged 18 to 68, ten of them women.
Casualty note
53 killed and 89 injured, 30 of them seriously — a site-specific figure corroborated by the Imperial War Museum and Historic England. Not to be confused with the 450 killed across Birmingham that same night.
