What happened

Official Civil Defence records list 17 raids on Brixham itself between July 1940 and May 1943 — a very different picture from the local impression that the town escaped lightly. A former resident working from ARP incident books has since identified at least five further raids missing from that list.

Also worth knowing

Area marker. The raid list is explicitly incomplete: wartime record-keeping was patchy, and Brixham Urban District also covered the Kingswear side of the Dart, so some incidents appear in the Dartmouth records instead.
