What happened
During the Docks Raid, two parachute mines fell over Queen's Island at 03:22. One struck the Alexandra Works aeroplane fuselage factory directly; the other's blast brought down part of the neighbouring Harland & Wolff building, killing six workers. Short & Harland's own aircraft factory — building Stirling bombers on the same island — lost a four-and-a-half acre factory floor in the same raid.
Casualty note
Six night-shift workers killed when a parachute mine's blast collapsed part of the adjacent Harland & Wolff building; a seventh died of injuries on 20 April.
Also worth knowing
The coordinate is a postcode centroid for Airport Road (BT3 9EU), not a surveyed site location — this site was previously left unplotted for exactly that reason (see the Harland & Wolff record above). Treat it as accurate to within a few hundred metres, not building-level.
