What happened

The shipyard was the reason Belfast was worth bombing. On 15–16 April three ships nearing completion were hit and the yard's own power station was struck. The Fire Raid of 4–5 May concentrated on the Harbour Estate and Queen's Island, and did the damage to war production that the Easter raid had largely missed.

Casualty note

No per-site death toll is published for the yard. The city-wide totals for these raids are carried on the Belfast Blitz record and belong to no single location.

Also worth knowing

The point is the archive location for the East Yard rather than a survey point for a works covering most of an island, so treat it as accurate to a couple of hundred metres. Short & Harland's aircraft factory, building Stirling bombers on the same island, lost a four-and-a-half acre factory floor in the raid of 7 April and is separately plotted below.
