What happened
Around 300 people sheltered in the crypt and cellars of the Redemptorist monastery on the Falls Road during the Easter Tuesday raid. Many of them were Protestants who had come down from the Shankill, a few streets away.
Casualty note
No deaths are recorded among those sheltering here.
Also worth knowing
In a city where the two communities lived largely apart, the shelters did not. It is one of the details of that night that Belfast has kept.
