What happened
A public air raid shelter in Roseberry Road was hit on 26 April 1942, one of the worst single losses of life in the Bath Blitz. The updated Bath Blitz memorial plaque records it alongside a shelter in Third Avenue as a specific site of mass casualties.
Casualty note
Approximate. One account gives 'over 30 deaths'; the memorial plaque confirms the shelter as a site of mass casualties but gives no number.
Also worth knowing
Sources spell the road both Roseberry and Rosebery, and place it variously in Twerton and Oldfield Park, so the point here is an area anchor rather than a located shelter. The Third Avenue shelter is confirmed as a second mass-casualty site but has no confirmable location, so it is recorded in the Oldfield Park entry rather than given its own marker.
