What happened
A raid of roughly nine and a half hours by 126 bombers targeted the port, dropping about 158 tonnes of high explosive and nearly 55,000 incendiaries.
Casualty note
The 18 killed and 109 injured is the figure for the Bristol area as a whole that night, not for the docks alone.
Also worth knowing
Damage was serious enough that on 17 January normal dock operations stopped entirely — the only day in the whole war on which enemy action halted the port.
