What happened
A V-1 cut out over Waterloo and dived into the roadway outside Adastral House, opposite Bush House, shortly after two in the afternoon. The street was crowded with office workers returning from lunch and queuing at the post office, and many of the dead were young women clerical staff.
Casualty note
48 killed and around 200 seriously injured. A figure of 198 deaths appears in some retellings and is most likely a confusion with the number injured.
